Catastrophe-Enlargement of Heart & Large Hearted

It is not always that a catastrophe be detrimental. Each Ice Age gave birth to highly evolved species. Relatively bad days give us the know-how to differentiate between the sincere and the insincere ones, bad and good, evil and virtuous. Personally I experienced that one ceased to be the same person among one's own relations and family members as one was back home. Adversity opened our eyes.
8th November 2016 at 11 in the night while on way to Chandigarh, the driver of the bus and one of his crew members forced me to disembark the bus en route somewhere in Samba. My pleading did not work. Even my request to drop me at some place where I could get another bus was not conceded. May be to avoid any risk, no bus thereafter responded to my signal. At such occasions I don't succumb to the circumstances. It was total dark and jungle around but a petrol pump nearby was a solace. I entered into chat with my sincere bosom friend Maha Ganesh in my pocket. He stands by my side in sun and shower. I apologized for my folly and begged for mercy. By this time petrol pump keepers became friendly with me. One among many readily seized the opportunity to help the one in need. He and his companion gave their introduction. The captain on the wheel was Ram Paul and his companion was Ravi Kumar. Ram Paul said that his wife is sarpunch and throughout Samba, he is known as Tufan Singh. Tufan Singh is ferrying passengers from DC office stand to Railway Station Samba in his cab. Ravi Kumar is dealing with vegetables at the local Subzi Mandi.
I followed their instructions and boarded the cab. I was told that next morning he would get me boarded in the bus for Chandigarh. Tufan Singh took me to his home, a one-room compartment. His wife the sarpunch along with her children were in sleep on a lone bed. Guest and Tufan Singh too had to share the same bed. Instantly, Ravi Kumar came with a proposal. Tufan Singh accepted the proposal and I was taken to Ravi Kumar’s house nearby. It had a number of bedrooms and I was given a choice. Mothers of the two stalwarts are sisters. My plea that I had my packed dinner with me was out rightly rejected by Mrs. Ravi Kumar and within a few minutes she served me with a delicious dinner. Tufan Singh left for his home with instructions that he gets up at 5 in the morning and leaves for his job at 6.
9th November morning, I got up at 5, took a bath, performed the usual pooja and by 6 I was ready for departure. Mrs. Ravi Kumar packed three ‘muli parontha for my breakfast. My packed dinner was served to cow in the shed. 6 AM Tufan Singh came and took me along with to the bus stand and made me comfortable in the bus for Chandigarh.
In his book ‘Letters from Father to Daughter’ Pundit Jawahir Lal Nehru delivers lessons on different topics to his daughter. In one of the letters he writes:” This universe is an open book”. He starts his lesson on aggradations and degradation from a speck of sand nearby in the courtyard. The speck was in the past a part of a rock atop a mountain. Weathering broke it into tiny specs. Rivers carried it, polished and transported it to your courtyard. At its source, it was degradation and at its final destination, it was aggradations.
I changed my mind to lodge a complaint against the erring driver. I feel rather indebted to him for otherwise I could not discover large hearted families headed by Tufan Singh and Ravi Kumar.
One of my wealthiest friends lives in an Ashram. One day he asked me for a night stay. I promised him my stay on some other day. When I phoned him that I was coming to him for the night stay he said no, the only extra bed available to him was already occupied by one of his cousins. I pitied his pitiable condition and asked our common friend as to why he does not live with his son at Chandigarh. The friend said that his business gives him a monthly income in lacs. Why should he close his business and go to Chandigarh?
I came to the conclusion that wealth more than needed may cause enlargement of heart and the wealthiest people like Tufan Singh and Ravi Kumar despite modest plenty are large hearted.

"Troops alert to prevent attacks" says Inspector General of Border Security Vikas Chandra.

This note is published. Edit note
"Troops alert to prevent attacks" says Inspector General of Border Security Vikas Chandra.
"Troops alert to prevent attacks" says Inspector General of Border Security Vikas Chandra. Today the Ist December, 2016 I boarded the public transport matador for Jewel Chowk. An old man without any tooth in his denture in jet grey hair paid fare of Rs. 5 for Mini Market. The conductor asked him twice for his destination. The old man said:"I told you twice for Mini Market and you seem to be sleepy. Better for you is to take retirement from your active services and join BSF, the most suitable for nappers." Another passenger seconded the old man and said:"BSF and Army gives a lot of relief to the electronic and the print media with stereo type news for months together on 'homage to the martyrs, mourning of the family members, mourning of the widow, orphans saluting the coffin etc. They seem to have the News already recorded and have to change the date, name and rank and the village of the martyr and the place of ambush." Another passenger said:" But we have no alternative but to believe the ever misfit Home Minister Raj Nath Singh, whose stereo type statement to the Indian Public is that they need not to worry, borders are well guarded by the alert forces." Another passenger said:" It gives material to Rahul Gandhi to express his honour for the security forces." Another passenger said:" Militants have read the pulse of our security forces. Being Jihadis they are teetotalers and they attack mostly at dawn when the victims, they expect are under the influence of hangover." All these passengers seemed to be hurt due to regular casualties of our Jawans. Jai Hind, Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan

Demonetization & Booth Capturing

Most of the political parties come to power by capturing election booths at the time of election.. Opposition parties adept to the trait use the same methodology to oppose the decision of demonetization of 500 and 1000 note to defame the Government in power. Through reliable sources I learnt that the opposition parties capture the ATM booths and Bank and keep their goons in the queues and get the electronic media to highlight their cooked story.
23rd November, 2016, I found all the ATM booths and Banks from Muthi to Kunjwani without any queue in wait.
In support of my view Indian Masses and National Crises 1962, Sunil Dutt performed a play Nefa ki aik raat at Bishna School in Jammu. He spread a white sheet of cloth and appealed the viewers to donate gold for purchase of weapons. My neighbour said that his mother donated her ear rings to Defense Fund.

Indian Masses & National Crises

Indian masses always at times of crises stood behind the Government like a rock. Banking upon this character of the masses, the government in power manages to bridge over the crises of whatever magnitude.
During the Chinese aggression in 1962, the Indian masses stood behind the Government lead by Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. Kashmir was calm and did not fish in troubled water. Opposition did not exploit the situation. Indian masses especially women donated golden ornaments to the Defense Fund for purchase of arsenal.
Until 1965 India was short of food grains. Indian masses were fed on rotten supply of rice from America under PL 480. America in support of Pakistan during Pakistan Aggression threatened the Indian Government lead by Lal Bahadur Shastri that she would stop supply of food grains. Banking on the support of Indian masses, Lal Bahadur retorted that before she stopped the supply, India henceforth refuses the American supply. He resolved the problem and soon the country from deficit turned into a surplus country in food grains. This is power of Indian masses.
For the then Opposition, India was first and the Politics later on .
Demonetization of currency notes of 500 and 1000 has definitely caused crises to the general masses, but as usual, the Indian Masses have shown resilience to support the Government decision for the National good. Since 9th November 2016 to 22nd November 2016, I attended a number of marriages that were performed smoothly. All concerned suppliers did not let down the parents of the concerned boys and girls. They honoured payments by cheques and others agreed for deferred payments.
The only agency that is in distress is the Opposition. They are trying to create an anarchy They are instigating the Nationalist Indian masses.
Strange dictations to the Government, little knowing that homage or ex gratia relief to those who died a suicidal death or a natural death in queues will increase to their number.

"Hum ues desh kay vasee hain"

"Hum ues desh kay vasee hain jo dunia ko munz athus kashuen latay hain;
khatay pitay hain auruen ko pareshan kurtay hain"
I expressed my sympathy with Mansoor (name changed) for his losses in his business due to hartal and continuous shutdown. for the last three months. Mansoor runs a shop at Abi Guzar in the close proximity of the
Tyndale Biscoe School. Mansoor dismissed my apprehensions with a smile.
Mansoor said:"Dass Sabh under normal conditions from 9 AM to 9 PM our earning per day was not more than three thousand. Now under abnormal conditions our shops open at 5 PM and close at 8 PM and during these three hours we make brisk business with double earning and rest for 11 hours. We are happy with this procedure. We pray the procedure to continue. More people crowd during this limited hours of work around cosmetic and mobile shops than provision stores. The only sufferers are people engaged with public transport business. The Government is mistaken that normalcy will return with plugging of hawala money and foreign funding. On an average each couple in Government job gets regularly one lac. This is enough to sustain the shutdown. Strangely within the valley different departments have opened camp offices in the valley a little away from the more affected area to draw salary for the employees regularly and settle the pension cases of the employees about to retire. We enjoy. Na lugay heing na lugay phutkuree aur rung be lugay choka"

Jihad Plan of the State Government

“One evening a European traveler in an alien land sought shelter from a native of the land. The native readily offered his all-purpose single room to the stranger. For his benevolence the stranger became apprehensive and in the midst of the night he stealthily looked for the host. He was surprised to see the host in sleep along with his entire family under a tree in the open. The stranger was impressed by the hospitality of the host at the cost of his convenience. In the morning he asked his host who he was. The host told him that he was a Musalman. The stranger immediately converted and became an ardent Musalman” narrated Moulvi Habibullah Kirmani, Imam of one of the Maisuma Masjids to my friend retired DIG J L Pandita and me. He simultaneously told Pandita that B K Dass will not believe it.
I told J L Pandita that Moulvi Sahab did his job of preaching ‘Tableeg’ for the day.
Moulvis darken their eyes with kohl and preach other male members in the audience to make use of it to make themselves more attractive.
Preface written by Zia-ul-Haq to the Book written by Brigadier
Mulik of Pakistan reads:
“The only true religion is Islam. The Heaven is for Muslims only. The
easy road that leads to the Heaven is through Jihad. Jihad is to convert all non believers to the fold of Islam. It can be achieved by;
A. Inducement or by conviction. Try your hard to achieve your end through A, but if failed, resort to B
B. Attack when they are in sleep; burn and rob their property; rob their children and women folk. Share the looted property including children and women folk as Malie-Ganiem equally amongst you.
C. If they ask for truce, allow it. But they shall have not to raise finger against any conversion. Besides, they shall have to pay jazia (tax) for their protection.
These are the words of the holy Koran. Anybody trying to insert or delete or alter even a comma or a minor letter is to be, as per Shariat, stoned to death.
Make copies of the preface and distribute the same amongst non-Muslims.
“Zia-ul-Haq”
Conditional posting of our boys and girls in 2008 in strenuous conditions with none of their parents, relations and social setup around is a mischievous Jahad plan hatched by the State Government under the clause A.
Since they failed to achieve any result, they resorted to the sub clause B.
It is pertinent to mention that when the police guard guarding the house of the then cabinet minister Altaf Bukhari deserted along with the gun and ammunition, the other day he was joined by three more from his village Pulwama. The then IGP Mr Gillani issued a statement that Pulwama was a militant infested area and the deserted constable along with the three missing boys from the same village might have joined militancy. To one’s surprise Haseem Drabu, the Finance Minister issued a statement that Kashmiri Pundits are welcome and they will be settled in Hawl-Pulwama.
In response I posted a post that I was not surprised to a German Pilot’s suicidal act when he deliberately struck his plane against a mountain, as I am witness to the act played by the then CM Farooq Abdullah in January 1990, who deliberately ruined the state ruled by him. Now Drabu will place KPs on the ‘vomuen huer’( the brass spoon for offerings to Agnue Kund) and say sua-ha
I pray the Hindu Community to rise to the occasion and not let the Government perform A, B or C of the preface drafted by Zia in accordance to Koran.

Seh Talaq (Continued)

In our teens Mohammad Sidiq(fake name) from Zaindar Mohalla was one of our playmates. He was from a professional carpenter family. We named him as Sidea Chan. Mohammad Sidiq was a handsome personality with curly hair. He was cute with proportionate height. His voice even while talking was musical, sweet and pleasing to the ear. He was a good singer and an expert harmonium player. His habits were neat and clean. He was mostly dressed in neat and clean three-piece suit or in a pushmina dussa (Pushmina blanket). Two pens in his coat pocket were always discernible to give him the look of a perfect gentleman. 9 to 9:30 AM at College time without fail he was seen standing on the footpath at Kanikadal Crossing. One day one Ghulam Nabi (fake name) went to him and requested him to read a postcard to him. Mohammad Sidiq managed to escape and ran into the cosmetic shop of Hassan Bissati nearby. Ghulam Nabi followed him and requested him to oblige him. Mohammad Sidiq confessed that he had never been to school and did not know how to read and write. It was all Greek to him. Ghulam Nabi said that he knew that he was illiterate and deliberately asked him to read the postcard to him. He asked him not to carry two pens in his pocket as it was an insult to the pen. Mohammad Sidiq politely handed the two pens to Ghulam Nabi as he was directed.
The other day Mohammad Sidiq as usual was in his usual dress but without pen in his pocket at the corner of the footpath. He did not miss a day when he would not see Rohila(fake name) on way to her college. Rohila was a fairy on land. To watch her gait was his passion. He would not whisper even a word. Being one-way traffic, he was contented with 50% success. His devotion and prayer to Cupid bore success. Rohila got conscious. Smile on either side was the ultimate for a long time. Both got married. Both enjoyed a very happy married life. Rohila bore a son to Mohammad Sidiq. God fulfilled all their desires. Life continued peacefully. One day on a trifle Mohammad Sidiq exercised his powers granted by the Shariat Law. He pronounced Seh-Talaq. Rohila went to her parents. All changed for the worst. Mohammad Sidiq expressed his regrets to all his well-wishers. One of his sincere friends was very witty. He promised him amicable solution to the problem. Both went to Moulvi, a common friend for solution to the problem without infringing the Shariat Law. The Moulvi was an authority on Islamic Law. After hearing the problem, in a lighter vein, he asked them to enjoy light refreshment for he had solution to the problem that was a minor one for him. Sidiq obeyed, but was extremely restless. For some time to defuse the problem the Moulvi talked about weather, politics and other issues of no consequence. Abruptly he said: “Mohammad Sidiq get down Koran Sharif to him from the rack in that corner. It is hard bound and in the uppermost rack.” With desirable height, he did not need any ladder for the purpose. He went and brought the heaviest book in the rack and handed it to the Moulvi. The Moulvi pronounced his judgment that the Seh-Talaq, pronounced by Mohammad Sidiq is not valid. It is null and void. He was asked to get down Koran from the rack and he got down a dictionary. The law is not a binding on a person who can’t differentiate between the holy Book and the ordinary book.
Word was sent to Rohilla. A grand party was arranged to celebrate reunion. Both thanked the Moulvi for his fatwa. Both felt indebted to the friend who managed the right path. The only son got brothers and sisters until the fairy on land got wrinkles on her face. 2012, I was told that Mohammad Sidiq died a premature death. Peace be to his soul.

Vindictive is the Nature .

Fiction, but 99.9% close to real situations around the author.
Almost a decade before on a cool evening of November at Jammu, he along with his youngest son visited one of his friends, Bushan. Full moon, cool atmosphere, lush green lawn was inviting for an outdoor sitting. Despite taken unaware without any prior notice, the host managed the show successfully. Carpet was spread in the open lawn and three round pillows ‘Tukiyay’ were placed to add to the grandeur of the natural scene. Two drinks multiplied inhibition with zero. It is said that when holy water goes in the truth comes out. Personality ceases to be duel. Time passed on nicely with relevant and irrelevant gossip. Grim situation was responded with a thunderous laughter and the pleasant one with remorse. Nothing short of ‘zarie asuen’ (Smile of the deaf). With dual purpose, to pass time pleasantly and to convey a message with moral, the host narrated a story that his father used to narrate at specific occasions with specific reason.
Thus goes the story: “Radha Krishan (fake name) was used to listen to complaints against his old father Nand Lal from his wife Radhika. Radha Krishan had a lot of patience and tolerance. Experience had made him an expert trouble shooter without offending any of the two. One day as usual, on his return from his office, Radhika gave an ultimatum. He begged Radhika to bear with him just for a few hours. He assured her end to the nuisance before twilight. He suggested to his father: “Bub nav hakeem chu amuet. Dupan sue chue kuran kuarmauetch. Bue nimovea tumis te tohie guchie ye chaas khutum.(Father, some reputed Hakeem has come in the area. It is said that he does miracles. I will take you to him and he will treat you for your chronic cough.” Nand Lal consented. Primitive days, no transport was available. Radha Krishan carried his father in a conical basket (The basket that is used for collection of tealeaves in Assam tea-fields.) En route, while crossing a bridge, he stopped near the first pillar of the bridge for a while to take rest. His father Nand Lal said: “Go a little ahead to the second pillar.” Radha Krishan said:”I got tired and so wanted to take rest for a little while. Here or there, it hardly makes any difference.” Nand Lal said that it was action replay. He threw his father into the river from the second pillar. Better not to break or alter the routine. Radha Krishan realized that it was the natural phenomenon. Nand Lal had to reap the fruit of his doings, why should he become party to it. He left his father there and did not return to his home. He broke the chain and went in renunciation .” The host advised the younger guest to be wiser and not to treat his parents the way his father treated his parents. It was better for him to break the chain of events. Unfortunately the advice went haywire and ineffective. 4th August, 2016, Bushan’s phone buzzed. It was his friend at the other end. He said: “I want to operate upon the Locker and distribute its contents equally among my three sons in my lifetime. My eldest son does not cooperate. He shows little interest in it. What to do?” Bushan replied: “Let you keep his share in the locker and distribute the rest among the other two.” “Who will pay rent for the retention of the locker” said the ailing friend. 5th August, 2016, the ailing friend in utter helplessness said: “My youngest son shunted me out to the elder (middle) one’s for I rejected his demand for all the contents of the locker to him. He already took my signatures on the transfer form for transfer of my car in his name. He exploits my ailing health and physical incapability. The elder one did not accept me. I am back to my home under hostile environment” Bushan had to leave for Pune on 8th August, 2016. He sought help from one of the leading lawyers and a social worker from the community. The Lawyer said: “Nobody can come to his rescue. It is only a new copy of the old film. It is only a beginning. He used to play shuttle cock to his old mother, and today he is in her shoes. He used to beat his mother and soon you will hear that he is being beaten by his son. He has to reap what he has sown. He has to face his Karma.” Bushan left for Pune on 8th August, 2016. He remained in touch with his friend. 10th September, 2016 his friend, a retired class one officer moaned: “But for English pot, I would not mind to go to some ‘Old-Age Home’.” Bushan phoned one of his contacts for his admission in BEN Hospital at Canal Road. The contact made the requisite inquiries and reported that the Hospital with arrangement for such inmates is available on payment of Rs 13,000/pm. Though affordable for a person with a pension of Rs.45,000/month yet the arrangement was declined. 11th September, the ailing friend moaned that till date he got three beatings from his youngest son. Bushan phoned the President of the Welfare Association of retired officials of his friend’s department. The President phoned Police Control Room for care of the senior citizen. Bushan cut short his stay at Pune and rushed back to Jammu by the earliest train available on 15th September, 2016. 16th September on his arrival Bushan was forbidden by his friend for a visit directly from the Railway Station. He was told that the atmosphere was hostile because of the care taken by the Police Control Room. Bushan could not resist the situation any longer. 18th September, as a precautionary measure, he took Anil along with to face the hostile music and visited his friend at 10 AM. He was welcomed by ‘gilay shikvay’. Bushan pleaded on an oath that he had not phoned the Control Room. He confessed that he phoned the President of the Welfare Association of his Department. Bushan was exonerated of all the charges. The ailing friend asked Bushan to sort out the issue of hostility with his son and daughter-in-law. Anil was asked to remain outdoor. His son harshly justified his demand for Rs.20, 000/PM for the maintenance of his father. He said that his other two brothers challenged him that they would come only after the death of their father to claim their share from the movable and immovable property. The daughter-in-law complained that her eldest sister-in-law and the eldest brother-in-law left for their Ludhiana address on the fourth day of the death of her mother-in-law who died in 2015. She performed the last rites of her mother-in-law all alone. Their claim on the saris and shawls of the deceased mother-in-law is unjustified. Mama ji proposed division of the movable and immovable property into four equal parts, one to each including the ailing father. After his demise, his share will go to the youngest for his services to his ailing father. The proposal proposed by Mama ji is acceptable to her. She calculated it and reconciled as it would give her 50% instead of 33% of the property. The edge over other claimants would adequately compensate her for her services to her ailing father-in-law. Bushan praised her for her virtues ‘sanskar’ that she inherited from her parents. Bushan and his ailing friend responded to the call for the lunch. On the table, the ailing friend said that for his services to him, he would give his house to the youngest one. Knowing his wavering mind, Bushan said that he can’t and will not. He said that it was his property and he was legally entitled to do so. Bushan said that his emotions would be heavier. Bushan succeeded in persuading his family members to let the ailing friend be with him for some time for a change. Anil had left at 1PM and so Bushan was left with no conveyance. Key of the car was handed to Bushan and both left for Channi Himmat, a drive of 10 minutes. At 9:30 PM, medicine for the ailing friend was purchased. 19th September at 4 in the morning Bushan was awakened to be in readiness for the day’s job. It was not before 11 AM that Bushan could come on to the wheel. Jobs were enumerated on the basis of priority. Top priority was for doctor’s consultation. Second was withdrawal of money from the bank. Third was purchase of chapels, clothing with elastic belt. 11 AM, the two stood in the queue for doctor’s consultation. 3PM doctor advised sugar test and ECG before he would start treatment. Strangely, the ailing friend refused to go for tests and doctor’s advice. 20th September, Bushan somehow managed his fasting test. He refused the post breakfast test and argued that each test would cost him not less than Rs.1500 on petrol for giving the sample and collection of the report. He did not change his decision when Bushan pleaded that the tank filled with petrol worth Rs.500 on 19th evening was still left with enough to last for some appreciable mileage. 20th 1:11 PM he abruptly turned violent. He accused Bushan of his collaboration with his son. He gave a slip to Bushan at Channi Himmat and accused him of looting him of 24 lac. He showered curses on him. After a long search Bushan located his ailing friend behind some bushes. He sought help from some passersby and successfully handed him over to his son. Bushan came to the conclusion that the Nature is vindictive. It does not spare anyone. The Nature is completing the circle and supplementing to its conclusion the fiction ‘Kakani & the Veith’. Bushan recalled the scene when in his childhood; he used to throw a Seashell through the window to street urchins and say “Gazi tchaki”. The street urchins used to fight with one another and say “Har mai” (The seashell to me).It is the ailing friend who spoiled the family and the brotherhood of the real brothers. Money makes the mare go is a mere myth.

Khul Buli-Stir till it gets ‘tuenth’

I am reminded of Professor Naqash, who used to say” stir till it gets tunth”
Surgical operation has already stirred the hornets’ nest. The ‘tuenth’ is also discernible in different quarters like Pakistan, The Indian National Congress, CPI & CPM, Kejriwal and others in the Opposition.
It has rightly added to the popularity of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national and International forum. He will, like the erstwhile Prime Minister of 1965, Lal Bahadur Shastri, be remembered for all times to come for timely decision making.
Chest beating of Hafiz Syed, Rahil Sharief, Nawaz Sharief, Rahul Gandhi, Kapil Sibal, Dig Vijay Singh, Kejriwal and others is justified.  They have all been stirred to the extent of ‘tuenth’ formation. For no chest beating they are sure to scum to the pressure within, that in my language is known as ‘Dum phutie guchuen’(to burst under pressure).
India is ruled by its popular government elected by the Indian masses. Pakistan is ruled by its Army, ISI and elected government of Pakistan is subservient to its Armed Forces. Indian Army executes the decisions taken by the Government of India. There lies the difference.
Kapil Sibal’s statement is misleading. International border crossing in 1965, 1971 and 1999 were not surgical operations.  All these operations were executed by the Indian Army successfully on the ‘go ahead’ orders given by the respective governments headed by the respective Prime Ministers in response to war strategy. Thundering words “Eint ka jawab pathuer say daingay” of Lal Bahadur Shastri in August 1965 still resound in my ears. For the success of 1971 war, people remember the then PM Mrs. Indra Gandhi and not the General of the operation. 1999 war against India was waged by the then Pakistan General Parvez Musharaff and Nawaz Sharief lied that he was ignorant about his Army’s plans. India Army is known for its discipline and it always is subservient to the decisions of the civilian government.
The previous coalition governments in the valley, to the miseries caused to the general masses, encouraged mischief mongers with instructions to the security forces to restrain against any provocation. Security forces digest all abuses from the street urchins and stand as silent spectators to satisfy Man Mohan Singh’s caution of zero tolerance.
Nosedive popularity of the opposition and its ‘tuenth’ formation seems to be beyond recovery.

Jai Hind.

Political Maneuvering

A few in the society have taken the rest as hostages. Majority does not dare to offend the few. For an instance, 2014, I made mention of my picnic to Dodheapather with two Muslim families on facebook. I mentioned the name of my host and praised him for his hospitality. Soon my host got a call from one of his friends who had read my post. My host trembled and begged of me not to praise him on the net. He said that he is father of school going children and such praise in his favour might cause trouble to him and his family. 2013, on our return from Tulmul, at Ganderbal park, one Muslim English speaking girl of XII class expressed her love for India, Indian culture and Indian democracy. She said that she was already Azad and if others want azadi, they should give azadi to others as well to express their mind. Prof. Jaya Parimoo asked her, why she said all that to us. She said:"I feel gagged and chocked. I wanted to give vent to my feelings. Seeing you with tilak mark, I seized the opportunity to express myself. During her narration, she was tossing her head to right and left to ensure that she was not heard by others. I told her to be careful and cautioned her. I told her if she knew the repercussions if exposed. She said that she knew that if exposed, she would get buried alive. Prof. Parimoo, pointed her towards me and told her that he made a video of all that she said. First she took it lightly and soon realized its gravity and begged me for its deletion. I promised her that it would never be posted on the net. There are so many such cases, who prefer to live in oblivion and the tragedy is that they are unheard and cursed for none of their fault. They deserve sympathy. It is for the expert planners sitting in the Home Ministry to circumvent the rot, sideline the few, gain trust of the sufferers and above all to ensure no deaths or injuries. Each death goes in favour of the tormentors. Compulsion of Hurriyat leaders must be understood. People already whisper that they are working for India. If exposed, India will have to replace them by another group. Yasin Malik told them that in view of the scenario outside, he could not talk to them. My conclusion is that he raised his hands and indicated that the rioters are no more under his control. Syed Ali Shah Gilani and others took the warning of Salahuddin seriously and deviation would ensure them the fate of Abdul Gani Lone and Mirwaiz Maulvi Farooq and many others.

‘Khokhea ha oie’ (Khokha has come)

I am told that ‘Khokha’ was a tribe in the upper ridges of the Frontier area that is now part of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. They usually used to come down to the valley; loot people and go. They had created fear psychosis among people.  Nobody would dare to confront them. Without any resistance, they would manage their booty.

Since ages the word Khokha became the scarecrow especially among Kashmiri Pundits. To scare a child, elders in our families would caution the child: “Khokhea ha oie” (Khokha has come). Kashmiri Muslims in my mohalla, part of the unique culture, were scared of the word “Hasea Pachea”. The Gun changed the terminology. Now 95% in the valley are scared even of their own shadow and suspect it to be of the one from 5%.
