Mujeawazea

Firewood  supply to city through river transportation
Until August, 1953 peasants had to apportion some percentage of their crop proportional to their land holdings and deposit the same at Shali Store Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar. At times of crop failure due to natural calamity, the peasant had to manage Mujwazea at the cost of his modest living. It used to give rise to the rural indebtedness and add to his miseries further. The government used to supply the crop so collected to the city landless dwellers as ration from the ration ghats. This process provided engagement to licensed ‘Bahchi-Hanz’ families.

August 1953, Bakhshi Ghulam Mohammad the then Prime Minister of J&K state, withdrew the draconian system of Mujwazea as the first relief to the majority. Mujeawaza was replaced by khuskhareed through Cooperative department to do away with the middlemen called guldar(Dealers in crop), who used to exploit poverty of the peasant class.
Only land holders were permitted to import rice from their land holdings in their respective villages to their dwellings in the city against permit for such import.
Others had to face scarcity of rice and had to manage on the government supply against ration card. The ration was too little to suffice for the whole month. Borrowing of rice from one another was a common practice.

Those days maximum number of people was engaged with silk factory at Solina-Rambagh and its seed farm called biali-ghar at Rajbagh. Every morning a big crowd of people used to walk the distance on foot to the silk factory from nook and corner of the city and villages around and across the Rambagh Bridge (Natipora-Chaneapora-Barzul Bhagat). The city was surrounded by chungi posts. Chungi means sales tax. Village and city were separated by these chungi posts. I recall a few. Bemina cungi was where there is Bemina Degree College at present. Batwara Chungi was at Batwara. Likewise Navpora Chungi was under Navpora Bridge , Gagribal Chungi was opposite to Nehru Park , Chattabal Cungi at Cement Bridge , Noor Bagh. Tax was levied on eggs, chicken, milk, vegetables, fish and other such goods on sale. These posts would also check illegal transportation of contraband goods.
Since raw rice was not allowed to the city, the silk factory workers from the city used to carry empty ‘degchi’ and handover the same to their colleagues from across the Rambagh Bridge. Next day, they would exchange the empty degchi with the degchi filled with cooked rice. Cooked rice had no restrictions.

At seven in the morning when long queues of workers were heading towards the Silk Factory, flocks of crows were also punctual and regular in the same direction. In the evening both would return to their night lodgings.  Most of these crows used to make their stay on the Sumyar and other temple trees and tin roofs, or mesh of conductors.

Within the last few decades everything has changed.

We suffer because of His mistakes

Allah seems to be helplessly looking for help from Mullahs, Jihadis and Muftis for Jihad against those who are not born Muslims. For His incapability for not creating all Muslims only, He helplessly looks for correction by Jihadis and has promised them 72 Huers in Jannat besides, many other benefits of fruit, strength and other pleasantries of life in return. It's said that Mullahs representing the Muslim Personnel Board have submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court of India claiming that Allah has created women with brain not fully developed. I wonder why Allah discriminated and fitted partly developed brain in the brain box of women. Had Allah been my creator too, I would definitely sue Him in the highest court in the universe for such partiality and sending substandard stuff to this globe. In legal terminology, it is a clear case of deliberate commission & omission a cognizable offence.

Ice-Age Expedites Evolution

Ice-Age Expedites Evolution

28th January 2012 was made an auspicious day as on this day Amit Bhan took delivery of a new car here in Dubai to replace his two year old brand new car. I was honoured to be the first to steer the stand still car. From the core of my heart, I showered my blessings on the family in murmurs. My heart throbs on seeing our youngsters prospering while in exile.
I compare our exodus of 1990 with the Ice-age. Early nineties, when both of my daughters were studying away from home, I used to write to them to remember and recall the advantages of the Ice-Age that they had read in their tenth class. Each Ice-age has whipped life to grow better and faster. Evolution expedites after every ice-age.

13th January, 2012 at Qanat Al Qasba Sharjah, I observed one in the neighbourhood watching and listening with interest to the gossip of my daughter and her friend Meenakshi Bhan. I asked him if he was a Kashmiri. He was thrilled and excited. Soon we discovered affinity with each other. He introduced himself as Bashir Ahmmad Bazaz from Kalwal Mohalla Rainawari, now shifted to Gulab Bagh. He recalled marriage of Khatija’s daughters that were sponsored by his friend Girdhari Lal, my elder brother. He deflated my boast of getting 73 next month when he said that he was already 74. In excitement he called his other family members and introduced us to Mansoor Ahmmad Bhat (mansoorbhat@yahoo.com), his son-in-law. Mansoor Ahmad vindicated my observation and said: “I am a simple science graduate with non medical subjects. In the valley, my future would have been a daily wager or at the most an employee on contract basis. Turmoil in the valley made me to look for my studies and future away from the valley. I got exposure while away from home. Here in Dubai, I am head of the Unit. His lifestyle revealed his prosperity. His residence is in a very expensive and posh area. We parted reluctantly.

Trip to Wagha Border

Mid nineties I along with my students and colleagues visited Wagha Border. I managed approach with the BSF Commander for allowing us to go into the interior of the Indian territory beside the gate. The only demarcation of divide is the English letter V marked on pillars. One has to draw imaginary lines by extending the arms of V. Indian territory is within the extended arms of the letter V and on the outer side of the arms of the letter V is Pakistan territory. The one with white turban is in Pakistan territory and we were in Indian territory. The only demarcation line is that Pakistan territory was hardly six inches higher just like the footpath. We were emphatically instructed not to place foot on the raised land. A minor mistake and the Pakistani Rangers would drag the errant to Pakistan and put the errant in Pakistan jail. The release would thereafter follow a long procedure on the basis of give and take in exchange of prisoners policy. My students and colleagues followed the instructions and we enjoyed the trip without any error. People on the raised land within the range of listening to the heart beat of one another also posed for the photograph. — with Anmesh Wali andBansi Lal from Amritsar, my classmate. at Wagah Border Attari (Amritsar).

Traitor Worth to be tried for Treason

Media coverage to the outburst of Farooq Abdullah against India is too late. Pundits read his mind in January 1990 and rightly took the right step. Muslims believed that the mayhem was exclusively against Pundits and dared not to indulge. Those who dared to indulge paid heavy price for their indulgence. And those who did not indulge continue to pay the price.
May 2009, my host in the valley introduced me to Pak trained Bashir who had crossed the border in 1990 for Arms training. After his return, he took to the job of a pavement fruit vendor. One day after many years after his return he was identified by one of his co-trainee and got an imprisonment of nine months under PSA.
By 2011, we became familiar to each other. He had a desire for Umra, pilgrimage to Mecca. One day on his request I accompanied him to the office of the SSP Counterintelligence to know status of the police verification prerequisite for issuance of passport in his favour.
Riyaz Bedar IPS,  the then SSP Counterintelligence obliged with prompt response. He called for the file. For want of favourable report, the file was filed and not processed further.
I said to the officer that the applicant as per his documents is 1977 born. 1990 when he crossed the border he was an immature boy of thirteen. He boarded a matador calling ‘Kopvour Apour’ (Kupwara and across the border)-a free long joy ride. Is it fault of an immature boy of 13 or fault of the Police that allowed a public transport vehicle without route permit and did not check whether the driver had license, whether the vehicle had fitness, whether the vehicle was insured, whether the vehicle had route permit for the route and other necessary documents to ply on the road?
The Officer said this question better to be posed to Farooq Abdullah the then Chief Minister and the then Director General of Police. He further said that 1989, there were approximately 315 militants in the valley. Aijaz Dar died in the encounter while attacking the then DIG G M Wattali. Janak Singh the then senior journalist representing Times of India alleged the attack as a fake one. He cooked a shameful story and described it as murder of Aijaz Dar. He alleged that Dar became victim of love affairs with someone in the family. Out of 315, the police had apprehended 110 and the rest were on the run but likely to be netted any moment thereafter. Many police officers quoted and believed Janak Singh. Rajiv Gandhi gagged Lala Tirth Ram Amla the Raj Sabha Member from the Congress in the Raj Sabha and ruled out his information about militancy. He accused Lala Ji of spreading rumour.
Farooq Abdullah issued orders for release of the 110 captives including Ishfaq Majid. Ishfaq Majid said to Mohiuldin Shah, the then Cabinet Minister that his release and release of other militants was the biggest blunder committed by the Government. Liyaqat, SHO Maisuma Police Station an upright officer with three stars preferred to resign rather than to oblige the mischievous  Chief Minister , who challenged Liaqat at Lalchowk whether the Chief Minister of J&K State was Liyaqat or Farooq Abdullah.
The late Mirza Hamid Iqbal IPS (Retired DIG) clandestinely saved his life and went into oblivion for he had reported the hideouts of militants and their arsenals enough to fight against the Government for ten years. O N Koul IPS (Retired IGP) accompanied one Inspector Police from CID to reveal presence of foreign militants armed with weapons to the then DG Police. The DG instead of appreciating the officer for sensitive information mocked and questioned him as to why he did not catch hold of them bare handed. Public transport without route permits ferried enthusiasts for Arms training across the border without any police check en route. Above all Farooq Abdullah confessed to the media that he did send his boys across the border for Arms training.
I am victim of a game plan hatched at a very high level. In the interests of the country, I pray the traitor erstwhile Chief Minister of the State and Cabinet Minister at the Centre be tried for treason at its earliest.
