Kashmir is in the news. In New Delhi and Srinagar, helmsmen are in close consultation.
Political situation in the Valley has deteriorated. Separatists are agog with joy. Sustained civilian unrest and recurring armed clashes with terrorists, give grist to human rights violation propaganda, with buyers at home and abroad.

A KM friend back home, apparently shaken, writes to me: “If India looses Kashmir, it will be a bee sting to an elephant, but if Kashmiris loose India it will be a foetus loosing umbilical cord with its mother. The way things are turning alarmingly ugly for the KMs across the Indian states is the worst thing to happen to KMs.
Such infamous tagging of KMs would certainly take them deeper into the oblivion of religious darkness, economic depression, sociocultural alienation. As rest of the India has begun to react to the KMs’ Kashmir rhetoric, I am seeing worst times to come for us.

Last week as I was reading the Friday Review (March 31, 2017), the weekly supplement of The Hindu exclusively devoted to arts, the picture of Kishori Amonkar on the cover page caught my attention. I quickly flipped to Page 2 and read the Review by Manjari Sinha, an ace music critic I have met and known for quite some time, of her performance at Bhilwara on March 26, 2017 at the Bhilwara Sur Sang...

The State of Jammu and Kashmir came into being as a single political and geographical entity following the Treaty of Amritsar between the British and Maharaja Gulab Singh signed on March 16, 1846, which handed over the control of Kashmir to the Dogra ruler of Jammu who had earlier annexed Ladakh. The State consist of three divisions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Each region is rich in art, archaeo...

The fascinating Valley of Kashmir virtually stands desolated today as if vultures have descended on the land. Barbarous terrorists hounded the legendary Kashmiri Pandits out of their homes; brutally killed thousands of people; and, ventured to change the 5000 years old history and culture of Kashmir. The satanic cruelties of the terrorists crossed extreme limits in inhuman behaviour that even the...

‘Bruer Marunie’ (To kill the cat)
BRIJ KRISHAN DASS·FRIDAY, 28 APRIL 2017
Rehmanea and Shabanea were friends. Both were married the same day. Contrary to Shabana's disciplined life and atmosphere, Rehmana had to face horror music at the hands of his newly wed wife Ruhuet. Depressed by everyday dose of rebuke, one day Rehmana went to Shabanea to learn the secret of his disciplined and peaceful life. Shabanea told Rehmanea that the very first night he beheaded the cat that had dared to enter into his bedroom to disturb his first night with his wife and drink milk that was meant for him. His wife got terrified. The act of horror made her docile.
Rehmanea went to his home and tied a cat in his bedroom. In the evening the moment his wife entered into her bedroom, Remanea took out his sword and beheaded the cat to terrify his wife into submission. Ruhuet laughed at Rehmanea and passed a remark 'Timea brarie guie dodh chueth(Those cats have already drunk the milk). Same is true with our Armed Forces and their Generals. No Flag March or General's warning is of any use. This episode is coded as 'Bruer marunie'(To kill the cat)
